A UNIQUE PLACE TO CELEBRATE LIFE
«With more than six centuries of history, a unique place to celebrate life,
an unavoidable destination in Alentejo, an invitation to travel and to dream.»
Diana, Duchess of Cadaval

To visit Cadaval Palace, where history lives on, is to embark on a journey into Portugal itself. This journey, which began with the foundation of the estate by the family of the Dukes of Cadaval in the fourteenth century, takes us back to seminal episodes in the country’s culture, society and economy. Follow in the footsteps of noble families, political figures and many other personalities who have walked the halls, gardens and church of the palace, leaving an indelible mark on this symbol of Portuguese heritage.

But the Cadaval Palace is more than just a monument to Portugal’s history. It is also the ideal venue for exclusive events. The courtyards, the interiors that preserve much of the original furniture and the architecture of the building make the Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval perfect to create unforgettable memories and to host weddings, corporate events, exhibitions or any special celebration.

Located in a unique historical setting, next to the Roman Temple, the Cadaval Palace is one of the jewels of Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.

Church of Saint John the Evangelist

Integrated in the Cadaval Palace, the Church of Saint John the Evangelist, also known as the Lóios Church, is a private property and a place of worship. Founded in 1485, it was built on the ruins of a Moorish castle and has undergone several critical periods of restoration. Today, visitors can enjoy the church in all its splendour, starting with the nave, decorated with Gothic ribbed vaulting and lined with stunning azulejo tile panels painted by António de Oliveira in 1711, or the seventeenth century tribune commissioned by Nuno Álvares Pereira de Melo, First Duke of Cadaval. The church’s chancel contains another striking feature: a gilt carved altar, in the Mannerist style of the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque.
The Church of Saint John the Evangelist is a perfect venue for special events such as religious celebrations, concerts, photo shoots and film productions. The church has an area of approximately 462 m² and can accommodate up to 250 people.

Halls of the Cadaval Palace

The scene of some of the most important episodes in Portuguese history, the halls of the Cadaval Palace live on in the hearts of those who choose it as their venue. Having undergone various renovations, the interconnected halls extend throughout the palace and offer breathtaking views of the Roman Temple, in perfect harmony with the landscape.
This is the ideal setting for events such as family celebrations, business meetings, corporate parties, brand and product launches, concerts, art exhibitions, photo shoots and film productions. The Cadaval Palace also has backstage and service areas, a fully equipped kitchen, easy access for installation and de-installation and a resident team capable of assisting with the logistics and preparation of events.
The halls of the Cadaval Palace, located on the main floor, cover an area of around 470 m² and can be configured in different ways and with different capacities.

Courtyard and Cloisters

Located between the Church of Saint John the Evangelist and the halls of the palace, the courtyard and cloisters can accommodate more than 500 people and span around 800 m². They are the perfect choice for outdoor events. The courtyard has been redesigned by Louis Benech, with a clear nod to the Moorish heritage. The landscape designer is renowned for his work on some of the world’s most famous gardens, including those at the Elysée Palace and the Quai d’Orsay, in Paris.

Thanks to their spaciousness and versatility, the interior courtyard and marquee, with a combined area of 812 m², are among the most sought-after spaces at the Cadaval Palace. The permanent marquee itself measures 320 m², enough to host a dinner for around 400 people. Perfect for weddings, conferences or cocktail parties, the interior courtyard and marquee offer privacy while providing a unique experience of the Cadaval Palace.
